I also go on to describe some other methods you might use. </p><p>I have recently returned from Scotland, doing some volunteer work for <a href="https://papp.charity/" target="_blank">People Against Plastic Pollution </a>. For one entire day I worked to remove a 249kg rope tangle that had been thrown above the tide line. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Rope Tangle Removal Video </h3><p>Perhaps the quickest way to show how I did it is with the below video. </p><p><br /></p><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="343" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ugv3u5PzJxQ" title="Dragging Quarter Ton Rope from Scottish Beach #ocean" width="610"></iframe><p>The video shows:</p><p></p><ol style="text-align: left;"><li>Untangling the rope, </li><li>Cutting up the rope.</li><li>Dragging rope to road head.</li><li>Loading in to trailer.</li></ol><div>We also show the rope being weighed. Most people wouldn't bother to do this. </div><div><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Untangling the Rope</h3><p style="text-align: left;">This is seldom worth doing, but on large ropes it can be worthwhile. Some filament net will be impossible to untangle.</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Cutting Up a Tangle of Rope or Net from a Beach</h3><div>I used a sharp knife to cut up the rope in to manageable chunks. I started off used an Opinel No.6. Which I have always found to be very good, but when it got blunt I switched to a Culinary Victorinox folding knife. This latter knife had a thinner cross section and cut through the rope a lot more easily.</div><div><br /></div><div>Of course using a knife (although cheap and effective) has a couple of drawbacks. </div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>As you saw through the rope you do release some of the fibre that are then too small to pick up. </li><li>You had will get very tiered. </li><li>It is quite dangerous, you may cut yourself. </li></ul><div>Alternatives might include:</div></div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Using a "hot knife" to melt through the plastic rope of fishing net. </li><li>Using a team of people to drag the entire rope of net off of the beach in one piece.</li><li>Using a machine (excavator of tractor bucket) to lift the rope of net off the beach in one piece. </li></ul></div><div>The below video shows student in South California removing filament net from a beach. </div><div><br /></div><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="444" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hDpkQYUIzHI" title="Students doing beach clean-up find massive plastic fishing net" width="789"></iframe><div><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Dragging the Rope or Net to Road Head </h3><div>For most people the route to a disposal point for the rope or net will involve road transport. Luckily on most beaches it is quite easy to drag collected plastic along the beach to a point where a skip, trailer, or truck can be parked. </div><div><br /></div><div>However for very remote locations it has been known to use helicopters (see below video), or as we are planning next year a boat to haul out the plastic rubbish from beach. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="444" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OoDL3k-UxCk" title="Barlocco Beach Big Clean Up 2022" width="789"></iframe><div><br /></div><div><h3>Other Ideas for Getting Rope and Net from Beach</h3></div><div>Here is a further list of ideas for getting plastic rope and nets from beaches:</div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Hire an excavator and to dig out buried rope and net. </li><li>Use a quad bike and trailer to tow waste off of sure. </li><li>Use a winch to drag bags or clumps or net and rope along beach (dangerous)</li><li>Dumper trucks (tracked and wheeled)</li><li>Ask a farmer to tow a trailer down to beach. </li><li>Use a helicopter.</li><li>Use a landing craft to access beach from the sea. </li></ul><div><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/further%20info/ecology/preliminary_ecological_assessment_PEA.html" target="_blank">Preliminary Ecological Appraisal </a></div></div><div><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/planning_applications.html" target="_blank">Planning Consultants </a></div><p></p>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-32304629928661761722023-05-14T03:38:00.001-07:002023-05-14T03:38:49.638-07:00Metric Sizes for Fives Court <h3 style="text-align: left;">Rugby Fives Court Size</h3><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Width 18ft (5.86m)</li><li>Length 24ft (7.3152)</li></ul><h3 style="text-align: left;">Fives Court vs Squash Court </h3></div><div>A squash court is a bit bigger.</div><div><ul><li>Width 6.4m</li><li>Length 9.75m</li></ul><div><a href="https://goo.gl/maps/E4211Dmwd4S2" style="background-color: white; color: #33aaff; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px;">Environmental Consultants London</a></div><div><br /></div></div><div><br /></div><p><br /></p>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-81929097298390899502023-04-18T05:47:00.000-07:002023-04-18T05:47:09.472-07:00Best Headphones for Bass<p>This page shows the best headphones with good bass response. Hi Dorky Thorpy. Thanks for being a Google&nbsp;One member. My name is Maze. How are you today?
00:46:37 Dorky Thorpy: Good thanks
00:46:44 Dorky Thorpy: You?
00:46:54 Maze: I'm glad to hear that, Dorky. I'm doing well, thanks for asking.
00:47:02 Maze: Before we proceed, may I confirm that you're contacting us about the email rollingreenhills@gmail.com, is that right?
00:47:11 Dorky Thorpy: yes
00:47:44 Maze: Thanks for confirming your email. I can see here that you have a concern with the download videos from Google Photos as it is playing as audio only, am I right?
00:47:54 Dorky Thorpy: yes
00:49:07 Maze: I'm sorry to hear that and I totally understand. No worries, I'll do my best to help you and if we can't find a solution, I will collect feedback for our developers and give you an external resource that you might be able to use.
00:49:21 Maze: May I know what device you are currently using?
00:51:27 Maze: Just checking, are we still connected?
00:51:30 Dorky Thorpy: I am downloading videos from google photos to a windows 7 PC. I can play the video OK straight in google photos. And I can take them straight off iphone with USB cable. It is download from google photos that is problematic, audio only.
00:52:13 Maze: Is it happening on all the videos?
00:52:28 Maze: Or there's only a certain video that having this kind of issue?
00:52:51 Dorky Thorpy: I have downloaded a zip file, with 5 videos in and they all show same problem.
00:53:11 Maze: And can you tell me the file type of video that was saved on Google Photos and if it is changing after downloading on your computer?
00:53:43 Maze: Is it possible if you can try to download the 1 video and tell me if it is the same issue?
00:53:54 Dorky Thorpy: They are both .mov (quick time).
00:54:31 Dorky Thorpy: Yes I have downloaded a single video (this arrives unzipped) and I have the same issue.
00:55:23 Maze: Can you please try to go to this link https://photos.google.com/unsupportedvideos?
00:55:36 Maze: Then, select 1 video to download.
00:55:42 Maze: And let me know how it goes.
00:57:43 Dorky Thorpy: Tried both, and neither play.
00:57:44 Dorky Thorpy: TITLE.doc [Compatibility Mode] - Word_2023-01-17_08-56-21.jpg
00:57:52 Maze: Checking.
00:58:39 Maze: Is it still downloading as mov file?
00:58:57 Maze: And can you also please try downloading 1 video via phone device?
00:59:07 Dorky Thorpy: No they downloaded oK, but wouldn't play as per screen shot.
00:59:33 Maze: Okay, do you have VLC media player on your computer?
01:00:02 Dorky Thorpy: yes i'll try that
01:00:13 Maze: Let me know how it goes.
01:00:33 Maze: As mov is a video format that was developed by Apple.
01:01:02 Dorky Thorpy: 0130_Message.jpg
01:01:10 Maze: Checking.
01:01:25 Dorky Thorpy: Same message for 0128
01:02:00 Maze: Is it downloaded as .mov format or hvc1.?
01:02:22 Dorky Thorpy: In downloads folder it is : .MOV
01:02:46 Dorky Thorpy: But message in screen shot (from VCL) says hvc1. . .
01:03:26 Maze: That's right. Can you try to convert this video file to mp4?
01:03:44 Dorky Thorpy: how do I do that please
01:04:30 Maze: You can go to www.google.com.
01:04:42 Maze: And search for .mov converter to mp4.
01:06:19 Dorky Thorpy: Yes that work for 0130
01:07:17 Maze: Okay, it means that it was not supported by the Windows Media Player.
01:07:34 Maze: Because of Apple restrictions with the file type.
01:08:07 Maze: As the .mov file developed by Apple.
01:08:16 Dorky Thorpy: But why can I take videos off of phone with uSB cable, they work ok then.
01:09:23 Dorky Thorpy: Code I not download a codec pack or something, is that a good idea ?
01:10:12 Maze: Apologies, as this restrictions are set by Apple but I can recommend you to contact Windows to better assist you with this matter.
01:11:02 Maze: As we don't have tools and resources for this information regarding with Apple restriction and Windows media player.
01:11:45 Dorky Thorpy: This is clearly a google problem. I upload videos that work to google photos, and then when I download them, they don't work anymore. It is not an apple restriction, because I can play the videos when I take straight from device when I use USB.
01:14:35 Maze: I do understand. However, once you upload to Google Photos it will only copy the file type from your device and that's the reason why it is working properly. The file type is working properly it's just that your Windows Media Player doesn't support this file type.
01:15:40 Dorky Thorpy: So my phone is running a newer version of .mov?
01:15:59 Dorky Thorpy: If that is case how come, I can get file with USB and it works OK.
01:16:57 Maze: Do you mean that you are downloading the videos on your USB from Google Photos, is that right?
01:19:33 Maze: Because if the download file is the same format from the Google Photos, there's no issue on your file, it is just the media player that you are using.
01:19:56 Dorky Thorpy: No. I take video from phone to PC, with no issues.
01:20:23 Dorky Thorpy: I take .MOV from phone with USB = Good
01:20:42 Dorky Thorpy: I take .MOV from google photos download = Bad
01:21:35 Maze: It is only with the file format that is accepting by your media player.
01:21:42 Maze: But there's no issue with the file.
01:22:21 Dorky Thorpy: So the upload / download to google photos, is changing the video somehow. How do I stop that happening.
01:23:17 Maze: I'll be needing to check on my resources more about your issue. Can you give me 4-6 minutes?
01:23:51 Dorky Thorpy: Yes that is fine.
01:25:01 Maze: Thanks and I'll be right back.
01:29:42 Maze: Thanks for patiently waiting, Dorky.
01:30:31 Maze: Windows Media Player can play MOV files, but you need to download and install the 3ivx codec software.
01:31:30 Maze: As if you are unable to play it properly with the particular file type on your Windows device, it's because you do not have the program that runs that type of file installed on your computer.
01:33:16 Maze: Not to rush you, but are you still there?
01:33:28 Dorky Thorpy: Working
01:34:02 Maze: I'm glad we're still connected. Please take your time and keep me updated.
01:39:43 Maze: Just checking, are you still working on it?
01:40:17 Dorky Thorpy: Hmmm. So even if I open the download video from google photos with itunes it doesn't work then either.
01:41:06 Dorky Thorpy: Have downloaded and installed 3ivx and that didn't work.
01:41:34 Maze: Can you send a screenshot of the error message?
01:42:18 Dorky Thorpy: itunes - plays with sounds only, same as media player
01:42:33 Dorky Thorpy: 3ivx - same error messages as before
01:43:20 Maze: Can your tell me the OS version of your computer as well?
01:43:50 Dorky Thorpy: Windows 7 Service Pack 1
01:45:16 Maze: Thank you! I am going to consult it to our higher tier.
01:47:41 Dorky Thorpy: Analysis of Video Downloaded from Google Photos
01:47:41 Dorky Thorpy: Program Manager_2023-01-17_09-46-55.jpg
01:47:54 Maze: Checking.
01:49:02 Maze: I am already connected to our higher tier.
01:49:24 Dorky Thorpy: Analysis of Video taken with USB to PC - This plays OK
01:49:24 Dorky Thorpy: Program Manager_2023-01-17_09-48-06.jpg
01:51:42 Maze: I'm already explaining the said concern to our higher tier.
01:54:38 Dorky Thorpy: So problem videos use hvc1 codec. . . . and working videos use avc1 codec. I upload an avc1 codec video to google photos and it downloads as hcv1.
01:56:04 Maze: So it means that the file format was changed, it that right?
01:56:40 Dorky Thorpy: Yes still .MOV. But requiring different codec.
01:57:15 Maze: I'm advising our higher tier about this matter.
02:00:43 Maze: Did you change the file type?
02:01:06 Maze: Can you tell me how did you upload the videos on your Google Photos?
02:01:07 Dorky Thorpy: No i didnt change anything.
02:02:13 Dorky Thorpy: The photos were backed up, from my iphone.
02:02:25 Dorky Thorpy: using google photos app
02:03:58 Maze: Informing it to our higher tier now.
02:08:20 Maze: Can you confirm if you are having issue when downloading the video back to your iPhone device?
02:08:57 Dorky Thorpy: When I take video from iphone with USB cable there is no issue.
02:09:17 Maze: How about from Google Photos app directly?
02:09:58 Dorky Thorpy: If you look at the hcv1 codec analysis in screen shot from GSpot it say it is "unknown". So google photos downloads are using an unknown codec?
02:10:28 Dorky Thorpy: You can watch videos OK directly in google photos app.
02:10:28 Maze: It is to set aside the issue.
02:12:29 Maze: Are you able to do it?
02:12:44 Dorky Thorpy: Do what?
02:13:08 Maze: To download a video on your iPhone device.
02:13:34 Maze: As it is different from playing it from your Google Photos app.
02:13:54 Dorky Thorpy: Ok ill give it a try
02:14:15 Maze: I appreciate your patience with this.
02:14:47 Dorky Thorpy: No worries, well done for sticking with it.
02:14:56 Maze: Please take your time and keep me updated.
02:19:13 Maze: Not to rush you, are you still working on it?
02:19:32 Dorky Thorpy: yes still investgating
02:20:00 Maze: Thank you and I'll wait for your update.
02:25:44 Maze: I hope I didn't lose you. Are we still connected?
02:25:48 Dorky Thorpy: So I can download, and view in iphone photos app, but when I connect USB the video does not show in data folder. . .
02:26:22 Maze: Can you send a screenshot of it?
02:27:43 Dorky Thorpy: I guess you can always email me if we get disconnected, there are a lot of people with this problem on the forums, and no one have provided a solution.
02:27:43 Dorky Thorpy: IMG_2275[1].PNG
02:28:03 Maze: Checking.
02:33:44 Maze: Waiting for our higher tier update.
02:39:53 Maze: As per our higher tier, you need to contact Windows support to further check with them correct extension or player that will support the file type to be able to work properly.
02:42:16 Maze: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
02:44:16 Maze: I'll be sending you an email about what we have discussed today as your reference. Should you have additional concerns, you can simply reply to the email so I can assist you personally.

house?</span></h2><div><br /></div><div>Older houses will tend to have thinner insulation, they could be draughty, and are likely to have less efficient heating systems. </div><div><br /></div><div>This means that as you try to heat you home the heat is escaping, and so you need to pay for more and more heat to keep the house at a comfortable temperature. </div><div><br /></div><div>It is the opposite in the summer. The cold air escapes, and heat from outside can get in easily. </div><div><br /></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">What technologies exist to bring more sustainable
options? </h2><div><br /></div><div>There are many many ways in which you can make an old house more sustainable follow the 3 steps below to upgrade you old house:</div><div><br /></div><div><ul><li>Be Lean - Install Insulation and Draft Proofing. Ventilate using heat recovery where possible. About 300mm / 12" of insulation is good in a loft. It is often harder to put extra insulation in walls and floors, but insulation can be "blown" in to these spaces. Blown EPS Beads are a good choice and perform very well. Draft proofing can work too, but some air flow is required to prevent mould growth, and other damp related issues. </li></ul><div><br /></div><ul><li>Be Green - To reduce the carbon emissions associated with heating you home, opt for some renewable. Solar Panels on the roof, can generate green electricity, or make hot water for showers. </li></ul><div><br /></div></div><div><ul><li>Be Clean - Opt for electric heating. Burning gas or oil to keep you home warm will reduce local air quality. Electric heating might include air source heat pumps or ground source heat pumps. </li></ul></div><div><br /></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">How can you install ductwork and other airflow mechanisms without ruining an old home? </h2><div><br /></div><div>Duct work can be installed in lofts and in crawl spaces with little effort. But in reality there is no need for ducting at all. Modern technologies such as heat pumps deliver heat to rooms through very thin tubing, and cause very little disruption. </div><div><br /></div><div>Electric under floor heating is invisible if installed sympathetically. Although it is an expensive way to heat a home, it can be affordable if yu home is well insulated. </div><div><br /></div><div>Some houses in Europe are built to a passivhaus standard meaning they require heating for only a few days a year. Even in very cold regions. </div><div><br /></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">What are low-budget DIY projects you can do? (Sealing old doors, double glazed windows, that kind of thing.)</h2><div><br /></div><div>A new set of window may look good, but they are one of least cost effective sustainability measures you can buy. </div><div><br /></div><div>Choose insulation and draft proofing first. Draft proofing strips can improve airtightness around old doors, but are seldom needed on new doors. </div><div><br /></div><div>Upgrading loft insulation from 50mm to 270mm, pays for itself in 4 years. In terms of carbon emissions the payback is just 6 months! </div><div><br /></div><div><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/further%20info/ecology/preliminary_ecological_assessment_PEA.html" style="font-family: tahoma, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;">Preliminary Ecological Appraisal Exeter</a></div>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-457477273150329072022-11-02T05:29:00.003-07:002022-11-02T05:29:40.914-07:00TMARS 419L Mechanical Dropper Seatpost - Review <h3 style="text-align: left;">Introduction</h3><p>The TMARS <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Skin-market-sans; font-size: 18px; font-weight: 700;">419L </span>Mechanical Dropper is a cheap Mechanical Dropper Seatpost. I purchased one about a year ago, and although it worked OK, I returned it as it was an annoying bit of kit. </p><p>The thing works. But it does not go up and down very much, and owing to he design, it can mean that you can no longer drop you saddle low enough, this inability to lower the saddle far enough is just as annoying whether the post is extended or lowered. </p><p>Unfortunately I returned it without taking any pictures so this review is stock images only. But I I use the TMARS <span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Skin-market-sans; font-size: 18px; font-weight: 700;">419L </span>Mechanical Dropper, i found that now my saddle (at minimum height) is 3 inches higher, because of the various collars, and wires and clamps between telescopic section and top of seat tube. </p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEigjy2_h6-4ZQbps1ibSAbR5L7vsm15ZDBKDNYrjVDwYnbay-wO3gtApn_kJOzqUzPkhgBc1lO62m8nWp9stt-7MR6NC9MTfqe_ZpYKrr-m-m_HBHr-JaS89mtW_gwi20YAXiuOpbdo0IBqp4ogQYqndl4kPaw3o6bA2iXVjOW2_3Bi0_mMFFcWvcdT" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="500" data-original-width="500" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEigjy2_h6-4ZQbps1ibSAbR5L7vsm15ZDBKDNYrjVDwYnbay-wO3gtApn_kJOzqUzPkhgBc1lO62m8nWp9stt-7MR6NC9MTfqe_ZpYKrr-m-m_HBHr-JaS89mtW_gwi20YAXiuOpbdo0IBqp4ogQYqndl4kPaw3o6bA2iXVjOW2_3Bi0_mMFFcWvcdT" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Clamps and Cable Fitting Prevent Full Lowering </td></tr></tbody></table><br /></p><h4 style="text-align: left;">2 - Maximum Height </h4><p style="text-align: left;">Conversely it also means that if you currently use less than 120mm on a stand seatpost, then your saddle will be too high when this seatpost in fully extended.</p><h4 style="text-align: left;">3 - Side to Side Play</h4><p></p><p>The seatpost has a lot of side to side play. The nose of the saddle will move approx 5 - 8mm in either direction. The Alfine 11 Pros and Cons are numerous. Perhaps when you are reading about Afine 11 Pros and Cons below, you may think of some extras! Well we would love to hear about them, please leave a comment. </div><div><br /></div><div>These comments relate to the <b><u>SG-S700</u></b> model (pre-2019) the SG-7000 models may be different. </div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Up Front Summary </h3><div>In short I have found the Alfine 11 to have more cons than pros. When I first<a href="https://dorkythorpy.blogspot.com/2017/04/shimano-alfine-11-hub-gear-review.html" target="_blank"> reviewed this Alfine 11</a> out of the box, and perhaps for the first 1 or 2 years it was beautiful, but after this honeymoon period the skipping problems (in gear 5, 6 , 7) become more prevalent, the oil change process is poorly designed, and the seals are over simple and prone to leaking.</div><div><br /></div><div>In short <u>I would not recommend an Alfine 11 </u> even though a <a href="https://dorkythorpy.blogspot.com/2012/04/shimano-saint-sahdow-ss-short-cage-mech.html" target="_blank">derailleur </a>system requires more cleaning, and higher frequency of chain / cassette replacement this does not outway the poor reliability, and tricky servicing of the alfine 11. </div><div><br /></div><div>For me the worst of all cons is the skipping in gear 5, 6, and 7. I don't mind that the hub requires servicing, or needs <a href="https://youtu.be/1hI9gEnRAH0" target="_blank">oil leaks</a> fixing. But after you do all of this it should work well. But no matter how much I fiddle around with the indexing the gears still skip, this spoils the ride. And for me the ride is a valuable de-stress mechanism. </div><div><br /></div><div>In my experience, the Alfine 11 lasts 2 years before it starts becoming very annoying. And to spend £400 on bike part that only last two years is not a good return on value. </div><h3 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #274e13;">Alfine 11 Pros</span></h3><div><br /></div><div>Here are some good points that would perhaps encourage you to get a bike with an alfine 11 hub gear. Please note that this is quite short list!</div><div><br /></div><h4 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #274e13;">Mud </span></h4><div>My typical riding involves cycling 10 to 20 miles along country roads that are covered in mud, and animal dung. Even with full mudguards (plus additional <a href="https://dorkythorpy.blogspot.com/2014/03/diy-bike-mudflaps.html" target="_blank">mudguard flaps</a>), you end up with a lot of mud going on drive train. The alfine 11 is quite good in that all of the gears are hidden away in a clean oil bath, so mud and grit does not go on them.</div><div><br /></div><div><h2><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZjxDgHW4INNbAGLkOPhYaabWU6_lmWv740Z5SgT8FN2k0A23u-nLiDu1T_jWEiyc_BW7w1twVi5pCWz6UBzAvjOZMoW3mXONn9_FrsH598JIusx57DOKuYTNaZHCcpSpsGelikSpkQu2mLPaCqdDyL0dEs0fOaYpEcXJhs--7W6p-N0-qsebtzTPP/s4032/alfine%2011%20pros%20cons%20muddy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="alfine 11 covered in mud" border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZjxDgHW4INNbAGLkOPhYaabWU6_lmWv740Z5SgT8FN2k0A23u-nLiDu1T_jWEiyc_BW7w1twVi5pCWz6UBzAvjOZMoW3mXONn9_FrsH598JIusx57DOKuYTNaZHCcpSpsGelikSpkQu2mLPaCqdDyL0dEs0fOaYpEcXJhs--7W6p-N0-qsebtzTPP/w240-h320/alfine%2011%20pros%20cons%20muddy.JPG" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Alfine 11 Covered in Mud</td></tr></tbody></table></h2></div><div>Of course the chain, chain rings and sprockets are still exposed, but you could run a full chain guard to prevent mud going on them. Mud on you drive train shortens its life span. </div><div><br /></div><h4 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #274e13;">Noise </span></h4><div><br /></div><div>The alfine 11 is very quite. This is a major pro for me. There are no freewheel noises when you coast, and the gear changes are (unless skipping) just a little click. </div><div><br /></div><h4 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #274e13;">Shift at Standstill </span></h4><div>Unlike derailleur gears you can change gear without pedalling. This is quite handy, but of course most derialler uses shift before they stop. </div><div><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #660000;">Alfine 11 Cons </span></h3><div>Moving in to the 3rd, 4th and 5th year of riding, this hub has become more and more troublesome. </div><div><br /></div><h4 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #660000;">Skipping </span></h4><div>The nail in the coffin for me is the skipping gears in 5, 6, 7. This happens when pedalling hard up a hill, and there is a horrible crunching noise, and the gears slip. If you are "floating" in the saddle at this point, then you drop down on saddle with a bump, and hurt your testicals. It is also a shock, and as you are normally pushing your self to get up the hill, it can be stressful. </div><div><br /></div><div>Forums are FULL of people trying to fix this, but in reality the variety of things that people claim to work suggests that the problem is hard to diagnose, and often something one has to live with. From memory things that people have tried include:</div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Changing Oil</li><li>Adjusting Bearings </li><li>Replacing Cables </li><li>Adjusting Indexing Away from Recommended Yellow Lines </li><li>Different Oil (Rohloff for Example) </li><li>Cleaning Hub Shift Arm Assembly (Small Parts Kit)</li><li>Use of Cable Length Tool - TLS700</li></ul></div><div>All of these thing may work. The derailleur alternative I know I could get to work 100% perfect, but with this hub, it relies more on the manufactured system, so harder to fix when it malfunctions. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgmINmozXelZBL1i1oJFrUjKSmPa27Per-uBtErEHLz6zjAbz1NFvXyfWqBICIq9SyypyII-3dblSUfHofpwyx7iVyiQoe5bthP1itABPy8MMX6edbfrpUsAk7lr6At61mueDXm7xYv16ZPM4m2Qqfx32N5NZQbDyi-QX1fUqfZA0sGZOkA2jItdhPq" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="344" data-original-width="447" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgmINmozXelZBL1i1oJFrUjKSmPa27Per-uBtErEHLz6zjAbz1NFvXyfWqBICIq9SyypyII-3dblSUfHofpwyx7iVyiQoe5bthP1itABPy8MMX6edbfrpUsAk7lr6At61mueDXm7xYv16ZPM4m2Qqfx32N5NZQbDyi-QX1fUqfZA0sGZOkA2jItdhPq" width="312" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">TLS700 Cable Tool - One of many "cures" discussed. </td></tr></tbody></table><br /><h4 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #660000;">Oil Leaks </span></h4></div><div>I keep this bike in a shed. But if you put it in a car, or keep it in your flat, then the oil leaks will not please you. For me, I had the bearing cone come loose (???) and this causes seal to move position and all of oil run out on to chain, trousers and shoes. I investigate this in the below video:</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0i6JuaGKKq4" width="320" youtube-src-id="0i6JuaGKKq4"></iframe></div><br /><div><br /></div><h4 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #660000;">Chain Length</span></h4><div><br /></div><div>It took me about 3 year to figure out the correct chain length. This is my fault really. You can either use sprockets with odd number of teeth, or a half link chain. For example, your eccentric bottom bracket or horizontal dropouts do not have enough travel. </div><div><br /></div><div>In short you can only really diagnose chain length with very careful measuring (???) or trial and error. A worst this costs a new chain (half link) or but and extra sprocket (23 tooth) to experiment with. We explore this more in the below video:</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/oUmotQEuf-g" width="320" youtube-src-id="oUmotQEuf-g"></iframe></div><br /><h4 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #660000;">Sprocket Life </span></h4><div>If you are not using a full chain cover, then mud and grit will still go on the chain, chainwheel, and sprockets. You are saving wear on a cassette (as the most likely alternative) but not the rest of the running gear. </div><div><br /></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">Conclusions </h2><div>Please see the summary at the top of page. There are many Alfine 11 Pros and Cons. I wouldn't recommend a 700 series Alfine 11. </div><div><br /></div><div>Where next:</div><div><br /></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Alfine 11 7000 series - how much better is this?</li><li>Box 8 Speed Derailleur Groupset - Neat but non-standard cable pull</li><li>9 Speed Shimano Derailleur with Sun Race <a href="https://dorkythorpy.blogspot.com/2020/01/ztto-9-speed-cassette-review-install.html" target="_blank">Wide Range Cassette</a> - pretty good option</li><li>8 Speed Shimano Hub - Less range, better reliability </li></ul><div><br /></div></div><div><a href="https://southwest-environmental.co.uk/further%20info/life_cycle_assessment/life_cycle_for_amazon.html" target="_blank">Life Cycle Assessment for Amazon Climate Pledge</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com0United Kingdom55.378051 -3.43597327.067817163821154 -38.592223 83.688284836178838 31.720277tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-87470700159009759132022-09-09T06:07:00.002-07:002022-09-09T06:09:04.571-07:00Who are the Five Best Marvel Characters?<h2 style="text-align: left;">Who are the Five Best Marvel Characters? - Spoiler Warning!</h2><br />When given this question to write on I didn’t know whether to do, strength, villainous, powerful or famous so I’m going to do one from each category as well as my personal favourite.<br /><h2 style="text-align: left;">Hulk </h2><br />According to Google the strongest marvel character is Hulk however I believe Thor is stronger both physically and emotionally, since Thor knows who to place his blows on they turn out to be stronger because the hulk attacks random things. Also Thor has defeated hulk in a fight.<br /><h2 style="text-align: left;">Loki</h2><br />My favourite villain is Loki because of his backstory, however the funniest villain has to be the grandmaster. The most villainous would have to be Thanos though, wiping out half of the universe is unparalleled. He also threw his daughter off a cliff so not much of a family man.<br /><br /> <br /><h2 style="text-align: left;"> Wanda </h2><br />The most powerful is definitely Wanda, although she is rivalled by Thanos when he has all the stones, she inslaved an entire town and created a massive false reality, although before her death she did become a good guy after being the main villain in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness and WandaVision. <br /><h3 style="text-align: left;"> Cap </h3><br />The most famous avenger would have to be Captain America although Tony Stark is quite close behind. Steve is the first super soldier/avenger in the mcu and was therefore famous enough before he went into the ice. He was also famously known as the captain of the avengers.<br /><h2 style="text-align: left;">Nat </h2><br />My personal favourite used to be Natalia Romanova (Natasha Romanoff), before her death in endgame, however recently my favourite character has been Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. As I like his personality although my top five favourite characters would be; Nat, Peter, Loki, Wanda, and Thor. Although if there were six spaces Tony Stark would be on there, even though I was on team cap in Captain America; Civil War.<p class="MsoNormal">Written by "O" Age 14</p><a href="https://southwest-environmental.co.uk/further%20info/life_cycle_assessment/life_cycle_for_amazon.html" target="_blank">Life Cycle Assessment for Amazon Climate Pledge</a><p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-83663077868234255552022-02-22T07:18:00.002-08:002022-02-22T07:18:36.510-08:00Error - TechSoup Validation Tokens<p>I have recently been trying to get a TechSoup Validation Tokens for our <a href="https://papp.charity/" target="_blank">Ocean Plastic Charity</a> , which is newly registered. </p><p>You need the TechSoup Validation Token to register for a <a href="https://www.google.com/nonprofits/" target="_blank">non-profit</a>, with <a href="https://google.org">google.org</a>. </p><p>Firstly we are transferred from Techsoup to "<a href="https://www.charitydigitalexchange.org/" target="_blank">Charity Digital</a>" which is a bit confusing. </p><p>I am asked to register an organisation, and taken to charity commission lookup wizard.</p><p>But I keep getting the error messages: </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">When Entering Charity Number </h3><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhXJORPMMzQDEqfHC5xnjIEHgEaKLWFDJipGaInxWrQ26U32_E9a5aZcyJ0EbGCGPMpFKvhq1UwCIi34_UJhj6NISG6JZ_iKSIcqN1SZt-RXNFjtRruMI5w5zarowWmvp0e2TPpA_j_a7JZVx0LxHV063DCXlg-0P4uI8nCG5jbNWRvpuLxZfXTyfsO" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="365" data-original-width="518" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhXJORPMMzQDEqfHC5xnjIEHgEaKLWFDJipGaInxWrQ26U32_E9a5aZcyJ0EbGCGPMpFKvhq1UwCIi34_UJhj6NISG6JZ_iKSIcqN1SZt-RXNFjtRruMI5w5zarowWmvp0e2TPpA_j_a7JZVx0LxHV063DCXlg-0P4uI8nCG5jbNWRvpuLxZfXTyfsO" width="320" /></a></div><br /><br /></div><div>If I put in charity number then I get the following error message: </div><div><br /></div><i>"Sorry, we couldn't retrieve the details for "1197869" from the Charity Commission database, <a href="http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/find-charities/">please check</a> you have used the correct Charity ID and try again."</i><div><i><br /></i></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">What is Charity ID?</h3><div>I thought perhaps charity ID might be the Name: "People Against Plastic Pollution"</div><div><br /></div><div>Or the reference number used in the charity commission charity page link (5189359). </div><div><br /></div><div>But no both of these return errors. </div><div><br /></div><i>"Sorry, the Charity Commission database seems to be unavailable."</i><div><i><br /></i></div><div>So I think my first assumption that Charity ID is the same as Charity number (1197869) is correct. </div><div><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">"Solution "</h3><div><p>Choose Option 6 from list of registration options.</p><p>You may have to log in and out again.</p><p> <a href="https://goo.gl/maps/E4211Dmwd4S2" style="background-color: white; color: #2288bb; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13.2px; text-decoration-line: none;">Environmental Consultants London</a></p><p><br /></p></div>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-28067527400191183732022-01-26T02:24:00.003-08:002022-01-26T02:24:44.148-08:00Zombieville USA 2 Review<h3 style="text-align: left;">Uncommonly Good </h3><p>This is the first video game review I have ever written. Such is has been my enjoyment of this simple, yet perfectly crafted game I felt compelled to write something about it. </p><p>The tone of the game is comedic, and gory. A bit like <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaun_of_the_Dead" target="_blank">Shaun of the Dead</a> but a video game, and in cartoon form. What's not to like!</p><p>One of my favorite features of this game is the lack of in-app purchases. You pay for the game (costs less than a single weapons upgrade in other games - £=$0.99) and that is it, everything else is provided free of charge. </p><p>This has left the developer free to concentrate on the game play, rather then rinsing every last cent out of the gamer, and as a result the game is 99% perfect. It is such a well balanced game I marvel at its conception. </p><p>It doesn't go on forever. But once upon a time, that was the norm for games. You could "complete" them. </p><h3>Set Up</h3><p style="text-align: left;">At the start of Zombieville USA 2 you begin with a selection of weapons that are fine for use straight away in early levels. You earn quite a lot of game money for every level you complete, or attempt. This makes the game quite relaxed, if you get you brain eaten half way through a level, you still get paid. You can then use the money earnt to buy new weapons, upgrade weapons, or buy and upgrade abilities. </p><p style="text-align: left;">You can change you character (panda shown here), weapons, and abilities every time you start a level. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgKuhHZInXpMx8SIv1KQARwvUtWgl01CVbPgEkgtm6GCC7usL_1YuXrSBdsKaxNG7pdydd7MbttoU_rYVQO_GBC4iYViCwfBb6Vka3_CnrdrMH3VuKFyVfVrMFQgrOhceAF0Aj4xANj3z6TrUA2cN6gO1dKO21WeStNbi_GnzeRnmTC0CS1mpdBAnBS=s2001" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1125" data-original-width="2001" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgKuhHZInXpMx8SIv1KQARwvUtWgl01CVbPgEkgtm6GCC7usL_1YuXrSBdsKaxNG7pdydd7MbttoU_rYVQO_GBC4iYViCwfBb6Vka3_CnrdrMH3VuKFyVfVrMFQgrOhceAF0Aj4xANj3z6TrUA2cN6gO1dKO21WeStNbi_GnzeRnmTC0CS1mpdBAnBS=s320" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Your Character, and Game Start Weapons</td></tr></tbody></table><h3 style="text-align: left;">Characters </h3><p>Although the characters (skins I suppose) do not infer any different abilities there are quite a few to choose from. They are not customisable. But there are some fun options. </p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi2kOVGe1oZwpBqAPORSc3VSI763PF5uEopmLnOnSJmRAe8SkJC9oza6Bhl72YBtgs_jKHTDiZCwDCkUlL7I6_b2gkI8RkM4ID498cklrcMJrmpn-kEpjOHjocz-sUWFNS9bY9KviiI9b5jHz3rSq3Lnj15sjKzR-n_YcHBCRzMa2BM7DeMhTgS7ZM-=s2001" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1125" data-original-width="2001" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi2kOVGe1oZwpBqAPORSc3VSI763PF5uEopmLnOnSJmRAe8SkJC9oza6Bhl72YBtgs_jKHTDiZCwDCkUlL7I6_b2gkI8RkM4ID498cklrcMJrmpn-kEpjOHjocz-sUWFNS9bY9KviiI9b5jHz3rSq3Lnj15sjKzR-n_YcHBCRzMa2BM7DeMhTgS7ZM-=s320" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Plenty of Character Sprites to CHoose From!</td></tr></tbody></table></p><p>You can choose from Hazmat Suit, Cheerleader, SWAT Guy, Panda Bears . . . there are quite a few, and again the fun cartoon theme adds a certain warmth to this Zombieville USA 2 which many will find appealing. </p><p>If you choose a new character, they will also have their own unique weapons. This is quite fun, as you can build a weapons set around certain character. </p><p></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Weapons</h3><div>As well as the more standard offerings of pistols & shotguns there are some more advanced offerings. The last game I was hooked on before this was Pixel Gun 3D. But unlike Pixel Gun 3D I do not play this game impulsively. </p><p style="text-align: left;">The thought that has gone in the balance of the game is impressive. For example, the power of the weapons vs the quantity of Zombies. The amount of damage zombies do to you. And above all the whole experience feels unpressurized owing to lack of monetisation, and that if a level is proving tricky you can replay a earlier level (which is different every time) and "save up" game money to improve weapons. </p><p style="text-align: left;">Its pretty much perfect. And of $0.99 practically free. Well done to the developers, and thanks!</p><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/flood%20risk%20assessment%20FRA.html" target="_blank">Flood Risk Reports</a><div><br /></div><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/Deskto%20Study_copy%281%29.html" target="_blank">Desktop Study</a>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-49298647611770605802022-01-24T06:01:00.004-08:002024-01-09T13:01:52.577-08:00Top 5 Paid Shooting Games - iPhone & iPad<h3 style="text-align: left;">Top 5 Paid Shooting Games - iPhone & iPad</h3><p>I am old fashioned. I like to buy things upfront. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Why Paid Games</h3><p>Take Pixel Gun 3D for example. Pixel Gun 3D is stuffed with in-app purchase options. I download this every Christmas, and play multiplayer with my kids. It is a great game, I love that it isn't too gory. And that the weapons are fun and very varietous. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GyIqPpiaqmY/Ye6D5446m6I/AAAAAAAAIqI/tC2S_FhL8l8hO60PGSNlOKwLOAJhdXYPwCNcBGAsYHQ/image.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="220" data-original-width="391" height="180" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GyIqPpiaqmY/Ye6D5446m6I/AAAAAAAAIqI/tC2S_FhL8l8hO60PGSNlOKwLOAJhdXYPwCNcBGAsYHQ/image.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />Pixel Gun 3D is a great game, but when playing I am never sure whether I am winning because I am good at the game. Or because my equipment is better than other people. I also find that sometimes I am playing <i>just </i>to win coins. <p></p><p>So perhaps owing to my addictive personality I find I play these in-app purchase driven "free" games impulsive and as such with less enjoyment. </p><p>So without further ado, I present my top 5 list of paid for first person shooter games, on IOS: iPad and iPhone. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">1 - Doom 2 - ID Games - $4.99</h3><p>For the price of a weapons expansion pack in most "free" apps. You can get Doom 2. This is a raycasting type first person shooter. Its one annoyance is that you cannot look up and down. </p><p>The game has a limited but characterful set of weapons, but where is really stands out is the level architecture. You <i>really </i>have to navigate through the levels. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sJGBc01noRs/Ye6GgoaqAKI/AAAAAAAAIqQ/XpQ8xY_DQYM0XGXwLjNIVS-efbM43vXnACNcBGAsYHQ/image.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" height="240" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-sJGBc01noRs/Ye6GgoaqAKI/AAAAAAAAIqQ/XpQ8xY_DQYM0XGXwLjNIVS-efbM43vXnACNcBGAsYHQ/image.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />It is basic yes. And by today's standards the sprites are a blocky. And there are only 10 different weapons in total. But I find I can pick this game up, play a level in 5 to 10 minutes, and enjoy the experience. So I would give it a go. for sure!<p></p><p><b>2 - Zombieville USA </b><b>2 - $0.99</b></p><p>This game must be the best value game of all time. Although quite gory, the cartoon like graphics give it a certain child like warmth. You cab change characters during the game, and equip each character with different weapons sets. You can purchase different guns and other weapons using money earnt in the game. The money earnt during each session is generous, so you can soon get a full set of weapons. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g8K6xw21U8E/Ye6szIRP0fI/AAAAAAAAIqY/mjM7E0qZi5Ur4Y2XI9zocf-oIHBRj-RJACNcBGAsYHQ/image.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="232" data-original-width="310" height="239" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-g8K6xw21U8E/Ye6szIRP0fI/AAAAAAAAIqY/mjM7E0qZi5Ur4Y2XI9zocf-oIHBRj-RJACNcBGAsYHQ/image.png" width="320" /></a></div><br />As well as weapons to but, you can also upgrade each weapon. And in addition there are "skill sets" that can be purchased, such as "Full Auto" that improves performance of all automatic weapons or, "Body Armour" which increases health. <p></p><p>In game play, you can carry 3 weapons, a nice touch is that you can use each weapon with its own button. Which make switching very easy. </p><p>This is one of the best games I have played in ages. Twin Uzis. That's all I'm going to say. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">3 - Space Marshals - $4.99</h3><p>Will update this when I have played some more. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">4 - EPOCH.2 - $0.99</h3><p>This game, is quite novel. Whilst most of the games in this list use control layout not dissimilar to hand held consoles (virtual buttons), the system by which you control your robot in this game is I think made for touch screen, with swiping, and tapping on targets. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjQzvk32s8lHjIf-sazn9AQ1wGHfNWobx0yQtzPZM15OoN9ZgrEYKxheT44oLTvt_bqWoXv1PHZsPGLBRwkqmBcG7Rb9Td5jmspLv3D4a9q8IajNuoAuo1bLPSz7TNbzD4MTDlD-mIZqjfbC__fQdXF7W5PGtyp2R_05mHCoK3ciapyUY5NTezDONzg=s2001" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1125" data-original-width="2001" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjQzvk32s8lHjIf-sazn9AQ1wGHfNWobx0yQtzPZM15OoN9ZgrEYKxheT44oLTvt_bqWoXv1PHZsPGLBRwkqmBcG7Rb9Td5jmspLv3D4a9q8IajNuoAuo1bLPSz7TNbzD4MTDlD-mIZqjfbC__fQdXF7W5PGtyp2R_05mHCoK3ciapyUY5NTezDONzg=s320" width="320" /></a></div><div><br /></div>This game is based on the Unreal Engine. You can only go where the game let you go. But the very nature of creeping around shooting people in the vital organs and brains, does not fill me with any kind of positive thoughts. This typical pink plaster is a relatively high skill material to work with despite being in an out of building trade for 30 years, I prefer to leave it to specialists. </p><p>Lime render or lime plaster is a sand and lime mix that is easy to work with, and although it does not give the perfectly smooth finish given by gypsum plaster, it has a charm of its own and I like using it, and the finish it provides. </p><p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-x5gVHH1Lo6E/YdhPFxRQMtI/AAAAAAAAIpE/t5Srw25lCjY5rHPzc-CrsbYmTGa9MMYVQCNcBGAsYHQ/lime%2Brender%2Bfor%2Bbeginners.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="1024" height="300" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-x5gVHH1Lo6E/YdhPFxRQMtI/AAAAAAAAIpE/t5Srw25lCjY5rHPzc-CrsbYmTGa9MMYVQCNcBGAsYHQ/w400-h300/lime%2Brender%2Bfor%2Bbeginners.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Lime Rendered Walls with a Slatted Ceiling</td></tr></tbody></table><p></p><p>For an earthy build, with the right aesthetics lime render can fit very well, but it would likely look a bit odd in a "normal" house. In the above picture I have used a slatted ceiling with lime rendered walls. The two complement themselves rather well. Wooden window frames would have been a nice touch, but they were too expensive.</p><p>Fitness. I can cycle about 20 miles in one go over very hilly countryside. Averaging around 10 miles an hour. . . .. . . 1 day of lime rendering (about 10m2) on my own (mixing, troweling, sponging) and I am dead to the world the next day. So it is best done as a shared job. It can also be a long job. . . . </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Mixing</h3><div>. . . . . based on an 0800 - 1700 day your last mix of the day should be about lunch time. Using the method described on this post, you will need 3 or 4 hours setting time before you can finish the work. A load mixed in the mid afternoon might be ready to sponge at 8pm - 9pm. For me that was after dinner! </div><p>Mixing lime render is quite easy. Lime (Natural Hydraulic Lime) and sand (the sand will affect colour!) roughly 3 parts sand to 1 part lime. </p><p>Be very careful not to get any lime in your eye. The worst thing you can get in your eye is a strong alkaline. And guess what; lime is a strong alkaline. If you do get some in I have found that sticking you head in a bucket of water and washing out eye, very very well works to stop any damage. Do not mess about walking to first aid post to get eye wash, or rubbing your eye with a wet towel. Wash out your eye very quickly and well, with tons of water. If irritation persists after washing (it never has for me) then go see a Doctor. </p><p><b>It is worth keeping a large bucket of water handy for eye washing. </b>My mother-in-law got some lime putty in her eye once, didn't wash it out very well, and the results were quite shocking. The white of her eye ball went bright red and lumpy. Its vicious stuff. </p><p>The below video shows how to mix lime render. It is a warts and all video. The mixing does not have to be 100% precise. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/t461W2PVf6A" width="320" youtube-src-id="t461W2PVf6A"></iframe></div><p>Put 0.5 bucket of water in a cement mixer. If you don't have one you can hire one. The only thing that goes in the mixer whilst it is switched on is the sand and lime. Do not put your hand inside, do not put your shovel inside. </p><p>Next put in 3 shovels of sand, and a shovel of lime. The end result that you need is something resembling butter creme. It should be soft, and easy to work, but it should keep it shape quite well, when pushed around with a trowel. </p><p>Put in more water or more sand and lime (keeping the ratio 3:1) until it looks right. </p><p>When you are happy with the result tip the lime render in to a wheel barrow, and then scoop some out in to buckets. You then carry these buckets inside.</p><p>Tip the buckets on to a "spot" this is any old bit of flat wood. Left over floor boards or a 2ft square of board of any type is ideal. If you can put this "spot" on a table. . . or a stack of blocks it will save your back.</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Putting it on the Wall</h3><p>You will need a hawk and a plasterers trowel as a minimum to put the lime render on the wall. Lime render can be applied as one coat to a concrete block wall. If you are doing partition (wood or steel frame walls) then things might be more complicated. See partition walls for advice. </p><p>Hold the hawk just below the edge of the "spot" and scrape some of the render on to it using the plasterers trowel. It is good to wear rubber gloves. </p><p>If your hawk is aluminium you may notice that it starts to fizz after a while, as the lime render (strong alkaline) eats away at the metal. This serves as a handy reminder not to get any in your eye!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xn6i58x51es" width="320" youtube-src-id="xn6i58x51es"></iframe></div><br /><p>Most people recommend starting at the top of the wall. But to start with just slop it ion the wall, and see how you get on. Perhaps start in a less visible location, so that your first bit of render (likely the lumpiest) will be principally out of view.</p><p>Put 4 or 5 hawks worth of lime render on the wall. You will start to see where the lumps are. You can then go back over it. Scraping of high points and filling in low points. You can keep doing this for ages with lime render. Pushing scraping and adjusting until you are happy with the result. This is the beauty of lime render, its workability. </p><p>Once you have it quite flat, then leave it for a few hours until it is firm to the touch. You will then give it a sponge. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Sponge O'Clock</h3><p>When you can push the lime render and it only leaves a very fine finger print, and requires a little effort to do so then it is ready to sponge. </p><p>You can use a sponge (decorators sponge) or a sponge float. The latter requires a little more skill, but gives a flatter wall. A sponge float also requires quite a lot of strength to use. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg-Ex4xeYqB9q-SQ3DL1cMIIGUvEQFh-Xq9hjX_cSHwATz5N-mmkKVwagO_-qHJgA5nsAHCUwA3qRiz3f-81Qb3p0mrQHtk8lun-6s4EOG-Npc_LqrSKyTnwg8cbXSCYwNkmGWRwS0e48KFQvisMcvc-2q4242IX6P3nT8162l0J3gNTi6w5h2QujbM=s601" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="307" data-original-width="601" height="204" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg-Ex4xeYqB9q-SQ3DL1cMIIGUvEQFh-Xq9hjX_cSHwATz5N-mmkKVwagO_-qHJgA5nsAHCUwA3qRiz3f-81Qb3p0mrQHtk8lun-6s4EOG-Npc_LqrSKyTnwg8cbXSCYwNkmGWRwS0e48KFQvisMcvc-2q4242IX6P3nT8162l0J3gNTi6w5h2QujbM=w400-h204" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Refina Sponge Float</td></tr></tbody></table><p>I use one of these and a decorators sponge together. You can use the sponge float first to flatten the render and then buff up and smooth little hollows so they blend in using the decorators sponge. Once you have finished sponging simply walk away and leave the render to cure, this will take a few weeks. </p><p>Trust your own judgement, you know what you want you wall to look like. Stand back now and again to look at what you are doing. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Undo</h3><p>If at the end of the day you are unhappy with the result, take a shovel and scrape all of the lime render off of the wall. Have another go in a few days time. I did this once. It was a bit depressing, but it good to know you can just start again at any point. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Partition Walls </h3><div>Lime render sticks very nicely to concrete block walls. But things are a little trickier when using stud partitioning. Initially I tried making "lathes" out of thin ply wood. But they were too bendy and it did not work very well. </div><div><br /></div><div>Secondly I tried thin plywood with lots and lots of holes drilled in it. This was OK. I think the problem was that I was trying to do everything in one coat (which is easy on concrete blocks), but not so easy on any type of plywood. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/z0SrJaqVjHw" width="320" youtube-src-id="z0SrJaqVjHw"></iframe></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>I would recommend using thin plywood, with holes drilled in it . . ort thin plywood with a sheet of EML over the top. I would then put a thin coat of lime render over this using a notch trowel. Leave it for a few weeks, and then put the top coat on. I did n't have time to do it this way, as I had to get back to my real job. </div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Corners</h3><div>Typically one would use angle bead for corners when gypsum plastering. But lime render is so workable you can use a corner towel if you like. It is hard to get the corners dead straights, but they will look reasonably pleasing when down. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LDknrYjx4ks" width="320" youtube-src-id="LDknrYjx4ks"></iframe></div><br /><div>I used a rounded corner trowel for all corners around windows and else where, and found by the end I found it quite easy. </div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Colours</h3><div>There is nothing stopping you from lime washing the rendered wall when it is finshed. You can get natural pigments and mix them with lime and water to make a creamy lime wash, which you then paint on to walls. </div><div><br /></div><div>You can use a roller if you like, but the result will be different to a brush. This is very messy and the pigments will stain your floor boards so put down some sheet. </div><div><br /></div><div>Keep that bucket of water handy for eye washing. </div><div><br /></div><div>In my honest opinion the lime render is best left naked. It almost feels like you are sitting in nature. I used a yellow building sand which results in a beige colour when mixed with white lime. But you can change the lime colour, and the sand colour to give different affects!</div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Cost</h3><div>If you can do the work yourself you can expect a very cost effective result. Materials and tools to render 80 m2 of walls cost me around £300. A plaster might charge £300 to plaster 1 small room. </div><div><br /></div><br /><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/further%20info/ecology/preliminary_ecological_assessment_PEA.html" target="_blank">Preliminary Ecological Appraisal </a><br /><br /><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/flood%20risk%20assessment%20FRA.html">Flood Risk Assessment London</a> <div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-54072525994093417402021-11-25T04:33:00.002-08:002022-01-26T02:40:37.069-08:00LPG vs Economy 7 <h3 style="text-align: left;">LPG vs Economy 7 </h3><p>Below quick comparison of costs for LPG and Economy 7 Electricity. Despite already having way too many bicycle tyres I just bought some more. I think I may have a problem. However, I have found that I cannot inflate to full pressure and still enjoy the ride. 4.5 bar on a tire of this width is crazy hard. It makes ride too uncomfortable.<div><br /></div><div>Update 20/01/2023</div><div><br /></div><div>Below are some pictures of the Schwalbe Pick Up Tire Mounted on a cargo bike, I hired in the Netherlands. The indicator light is also obscured by your finger when you are trying to operate the button, so you can not see any of the flashes of lights colour changes. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x7l8VxEtez8/YAge07c62QI/AAAAAAAAHIQ/r-HB08nqTnUtINLCFqRfabft-P-sXn8XQCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/%2BJabra%2BBT2045%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x7l8VxEtez8/YAge07c62QI/AAAAAAAAHIQ/r-HB08nqTnUtINLCFqRfabft-P-sXn8XQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/%2BJabra%2BBT2045%2B%25282%2529.JPG" /></a></div><br /><h3 style="text-align: left;">Comfort </h3><div>Despite not "looking" very comfy. The ear piece is so light and small that it is actually very comfy. I have worn it for a few hours at a time listening to audio books, and my ear does not get sore.</div><div><br /></div><div>The ear hoops is also detachable, and the in ear bud will wedge in you ear quite well, enabling you to use the earpiece without the hoop, if your ear is the right shape!</div><div><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Call Quality</h3><div>The sound coming from the small in ear bud, is free from bass but that is quite good for clarity when talking to people. </div><div><br /></div><div>The volume could do with being a bit louder, but is pretty good even in windy conditions (for listening), however in wind the microphone (and associated noise cancellation etc.) does struggle a bit, but that is the same all round I think.</div><div><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Conclusions</h3><div>The volume could do with being 20% louder. But apart from that the Jabra BT2045 is a good no frills option. </div><div><br /></div><a href="https://southwest-environmental.co.uk/further%20info/flood_risk/What_is_the_Sequential_Test.html">Sequential Test </a><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com1United Kingdom55.378051 -3.43597335.027777941917378 -38.592223000000004 75.72832405808262 31.720277000000006tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-27548574409049502752021-01-19T08:42:00.002-08:002024-01-09T13:01:34.847-08:00Mud Guards for Tag Along Bike<h3 style="text-align: left;">Intro</h3><p>My youngest child (boy) has recently come to the age where he can go on a tag along bike. Living in rural england, there is mud everywhere for 90% of the year, and our first trip out was cut short owing sogginess and mud splattering. </p><p>I am quite practiced at bodging together<a href="https://dorkythorpy.blogspot.com/2019/06/diy-mountain-bike-mtb-mudguards-fenders.html" target="_blank"> DIY mudguards </a>(fenders is in USA) for various bikes, but fitting effective mudguards (fenders) on this tag along has proved a laborious affair!</p><p>The problem being that as well as the normal rear wheel splatter problem, you also have a unique "front wheel" splatter problem for the tag along rider, as they are low down and in the line of fire from your rear wheel splatter.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uJ3EznslpUI/YAcDsySc9_I/AAAAAAAAHHM/DazUqsN2ZTsYRHQzK-o6XJh0PttcIxKuwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1120/tag%2Balong%2Bbike%2Bmud%2Bgaurds%2Bfenders.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="513" data-original-width="1120" height="184" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uJ3EznslpUI/YAcDsySc9_I/AAAAAAAAHHM/DazUqsN2ZTsYRHQzK-o6XJh0PttcIxKuwCLcBGAsYHQ/w400-h184/tag%2Balong%2Bbike%2Bmud%2Bgaurds%2Bfenders.png" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p>So the rear rider will get wet and muddy very quickly if no mud guards are provided. This can be fun in the summer, but in the winter it is a bit much to ask perhaps. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Tag Along Wheel Splatter</h3><p>The easiest problem to deal with is the splatter from the wheel of the tag along bike. Which you would treat as any rear wheel, on any bike. You could buy a set of 20" mudguards and discard the front one, and that would do the trick no problem. </p><p>In my case I used my favourite "trick" of installing a rack (£10) and then zip tieing some <a href="https://www.ocean-plastic-gifts.uk/" target="_blank">plastic </a>board to it. Zip ties are cheap, and the <a href="https://www.ocean-plastic-gifts.uk/" target="_blank">plastic</a> is always free. Plus you get a rear rack, and loads of clearance around the wheel. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Main Bike Rear Wheel Splatter</h3><div>This is quite difficult to deal with. The best answer would be to fit a flap on the rear mudguard of the main bike. The flap can be made from allsorts of things, I have done a post on DIY mudflaps some years ago. </div><div><br /></div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vY9YUVJ1XiQ/YAcInxtERfI/AAAAAAAAHHk/APO-AbP3fkoDNNasM5bbWU3Rv5VMtmeTwCLcBGAsYHQ/s2048/tag%2Balong%2Bmudguards%2Bfenders%2B%25281%2529.JPG" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vY9YUVJ1XiQ/YAcInxtERfI/AAAAAAAAHHk/APO-AbP3fkoDNNasM5bbWU3Rv5VMtmeTwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/tag%2Balong%2Bmudguards%2Bfenders%2B%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Simply Zip Tie Some Type of Plastic on to Under Side of Rack</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>As the image below shows the splatter not only flies off in the conventional manner, but also is blown backwards by head winds, meaning that is can "bend" around mudguards fitted on the "down tube" of the tag along. And after a year of enforced saving (COVID) I have treated myself to a Soundboks 2 Speaker. </p><p>At the time of purchase there was a choice between getting the Soundboks 2 and the "New Soundboks", the Soundboks 3 (?).</p><p>However, after watching lots of reviews on YouTube, I decided on the Soundboks 2. The main reasons was I liked the sound better, the secondary reason was that was £300 cheaper . . . .</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/XUtF2BVCSZA" width="320" youtube-src-id="XUtF2BVCSZA"></iframe></div><br /><p>I watched the above video and, the Soundboks 2, to my ears sounded better. Less harsh I thought. I like a soft mellow bass rich sound, a bit like the kind of sound you would get from an old school valve amplifier. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Soundboks 2 - 2021 Review - Finding</h3><p>My Soundboks 2 arrived in early December. I was patient and waited until Christmas Day to open it. The sound was very pleasing at low to moderate volumes, but become harsh at higher volumes. </p><p>In my opinion the bass / treble balance is lost at higher volumes, and the tweeter become jangly and unpleasant at higher volumes also. </p><p>Don't get me wrong it is a great speaker, very well built and the battery lasts for ages (days) for normal listening. It will also likely out last me, and be handed down to my kids it is so well built. </p><p>The switches and the build of the casing is bomb proof. I love that. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Soundboks 2 - 2021 Review - Context</h3><p>So you might ask what speaker am I comparing this to? Well it is a home made one, that I have "perfected" over the last few years.</p><p>I like to dance to music that is bass heavy, and I like to feel the bass whilst still not hurting my ears, with over inflated treble and mid range. </p><p>The specs of my home made speaker are as follows:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>TPA3116 2.1 </li><li>24V Power Supply</li><li>12mm exterior plywood cabinet.</li><li>Salvaged 8 ohm speaker drivers and tweeter complete with original crossovers.</li><li>JBL 2 ohm 10" sub woofer</li></ul><div>After a few weeks of listening I can safely say that I prefer the sound from my home made speaker. It quieter in treble and mid range, but still pack mega punch in the bass area. </div><p></p><p>I will post a youtube video, with comparison soon:</p><p>VIDEO</p><br /> <a href="https://southwest-environmental.co.uk/projects/ocean_plastic_gifts.html">Ocean Plastic Gifts</a><br /><br /><a href="https://southwest-environmental.co.uk/further%20info/flood_risk/What_is_the_Sequential_Test.html">Sequential Test </a><br /><br /><a href="https://zap-seo.com/web_content.html">Scientific Web Content </a>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com0United Kingdom55.378051 -3.43597327.067817163821154 -38.592223 83.688284836178838 31.720277tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-80562875068465488692020-09-16T04:43:00.005-07:002022-11-23T04:09:46.377-08:00Laggy Slow Rendering PDF - Problem & Fix <p>For work I often view PDF drawings exported or printed from AutoCAD, some have 100's of layers, others are quite simple. Some are Laggy Slow Rendering PDF, where layers of CAD drawing appear very slowly after one another, and as the pdf is regenerated as you zoom or scroll you have to wait all over again. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/m9lCpSEisPg" width="320" youtube-src-id="m9lCpSEisPg"></iframe></div><p><br /></p><p>I have notice over the last few years that some of the more complex drawings are very slow to render, the display of the PDF layers is laggy, and when zoomed in panning around the document this can be quite annoying. </p><p>PC Specs are old, but heavy duty:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>HP XW8400</li><li>2 x CPU (2 x xeon 5160) 4 Cores in Total</li><li>2 x Nvidia NVS 300 1GB </li><li>Samsung EVO SSD</li><li>16 GB of RAM</li></ul><div>Document for test:</div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>2MB PDF exported from CAD drawing with around 50 layers. </li></ul></div><p></p><p>In my attempt to diagnose the problem, I have made the following notes: </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">1 - CPU - Not a Problem</h3><p>Are these laggy PDF, caused by a CPU bottleneck. No they are not. In resource monitor I see around 15% usage over 4 cores (2 CPUs), whilst zooming in and out on the PDF, and panning around using grab function. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">2 - GPU - Not a Problem</h3><p>Monitoring use of 2x 1GB cards in Nvidia Control Centre I see a maximum of 7% usage on one card. So it is not likely that GPU bottleneck is causing problem. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">3 - Disk Read Write - Not a Problem</h3><p>Nope, very little activity. Whilst causing PDF to lag, and badly render. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">4 - PDF Software - Not a Problem</h3><p>I am using a very old version of Foxit PDF in 32 bit. Lets swap that for 64 bit Nitro Reader, and see if that works. No it does not help, actually worse using new software. Also tried with PDF Architect same symptoms. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;"><b><span style="color: #274e13;">5 - Hatching In Drawings < Solution </span></b></h3><p>I have found over time that problem rests with "hatching" or solid colour fill in drawings. For example if an architect has used green colouring in on a section lawn, then that can cause very slow rendering of PDFs.</p><p>If the PDF reader you are using have a layer control panel, look for layers labelled hatch, or fill, or area. And deselect these layers I have found this helps in 90% of cases. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #274e13;">6 - Convert to Image and then back to PDF</span></h3><p>I can use PDF Architect to convert the PDF to an image (PNG / JPEG). I then print that image back to a PDF, taking care to keep the paper size the same as original to preserve scaling. This works very well in deed and is my preferred method. </p><p><br /></p><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/default.html">Environmental Consultants</a><br /><br /><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/flood%20risk%20assessment%20FRA.html">Flood Risk Reports</a>Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-57641673660379617092020-09-03T01:43:00.004-07:002022-01-26T02:49:46.980-08:00Access Land (Right to Roam) Map Viewer UK <h3 style="text-align: left;">Introduction to Access Land Map Viewer</h3><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">If you have ever considered going walking where there are no paths, then the below map may help you decide where it is legal to do that. In fact out of 3000 or more reviews the WA801ND gets 4.5 out of 5. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Roem-XMIf4w/XzKNmOEpm9I/AAAAAAAAG9A/pg0sjszCxjsPBnZm50OmZqK3DjzFmLHugCLcBGAsYHQ/s1500/TP%2BLink%2BTL-WA801ND%2BAccess%2BPoint%2BReview%2B.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="1186" height="512" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Roem-XMIf4w/XzKNmOEpm9I/AAAAAAAAG9A/pg0sjszCxjsPBnZm50OmZqK3DjzFmLHugCLcBGAsYHQ/w405-h512/TP%2BLink%2BTL-WA801ND%2BAccess%2BPoint%2BReview%2B.jpg" width="405" /></a></div><p>It is not hard to see why. It is from a good manufacturer and it very cheap, for what it does. It can be used as a access point, or a repeater, or as a client, enabling a wired network device to connect to a wireless network. So its pretty handy.</p><p>There are few things that people buying this on Amazon bring up as bad things about this TP Link TL-WA801ND Access Point, and I will go over some of these here.</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Quoting 300 Mbps WiFi but only 100 Mbps Ethernet Port</h3><p>Hmmm. Yes the ethernet point is not gigabit. So this is a bit cheeky. But unless you are doing real heavy lifting with this access point you will not notice. </p><p>We can stream 2 HD TVs through this whilst surfing web, and listening to music on phones. So it is quite a powerful bit of kit.</p><p>As an access point the throughout would be capped at 100MPs, but as repeater it should handle 300MBPs. Although factoring two way traffic does this reduce to 150MBs effectively. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Difficult to Set up and Slow</h3><p>No. Not my finding. The interface can be a little laggy, but you get that on a lot of networking equipment. </p><p>Some say that when they change the SIDD or login details they loose the connection. This happens on nearly all networking gear with these features. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Signal Strength </h3><p>Not amazing, although 2 or 3 can be used to get wi-fi over large area. We have one that "shoots" wifi to a netgear repeater which then take wifi in to house. </p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Reliability </h3><p>Occasional stuff breaks. I have had lots of networking gear of the years of all types and makes. Most has broken over time. Whether this is burnt out internals, or misdiagnosed problems passed down from other pieces of hardware (such as DHCP fault on router) who knows. Based on amazon reviews these have a 0.5% failure rate. And if you look at all the other wireless access point available, they all have failure issues too!</p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Conclusions </h3><p>This is a very cost effective piece of kit. It has a few problems, but most of these are found in all access points. </p><p><br /></p><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/flood%20risk%20assessment%20FRA.html">Flood Risk Reports</a><br /><br /><a href="https://www.southwest-environmental.co.uk/permitting.html">Environmental Permit Applications</a> Kermit Greenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04017975084516716465noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4675009870306534763.post-58050683148003801202020-08-06T02:43:00.004-07:002022-01-26T02:50:48.350-08:00TP Link CPE210 vs TL-WA801ND <h3 style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: x-large;">TP Link CPE210 </span> vs TL-WA801ND Access Point </h3><div><span style="font-size: medium;">As with many folk in the UK we live in a oldish house with walls made of 3 meter thick depleted uranium, and getting a wireless signal around the house is a bit tricky. </span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">I have bee</span>n using a TP Link TL-WA801ND Access Point for around a year with mixed results. It give a weak signal in the house.</div><div><br /></div><div>I wanted to improve on this and so found the TP Link CPE210 on amazon for £46 ($90). I think I have misunderstood what CPE210 is for, so I will share thoughts in below.</div><div><br /></div><div>I should point out that the <a href="https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/cpe210/" target="_blank">CPE210 </a>is designed to do 4 or 5 different jobs. Ah! Strimming the Garden. One of Life's simple pleasures. And it is a complete, joyful pleasure using this Makita DUR187LZ Strimmer Brush Cutter. This is one of the most pleasing tool purchases I have made in the last year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1puxyA4yIeM/XwmokRR7spI/AAAAAAAAG5Y/Ol4NItMp_eEfLOdcrDUcxS4DgZ7BUynrwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/DUR187LZ%2B%2B%25281024x768%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="768" data-original-width="1024" height="240" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1puxyA4yIeM/XwmokRR7spI/AAAAAAAAG5Y/Ol4NItMp_eEfLOdcrDUcxS4DgZ7BUynrwCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/DUR187LZ%2B%2B%25281024x768%2529.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This strimmer works with the familiar bump line head, which you might find a wide variety of 2 stroke powered strimmer and brush cutters. But things are quite different in all other respects.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WMlxQcW8KWA/Xwml_tVILrI/AAAAAAAAG4s/FbIXHW1Ev904P4htCJUImeWDXla7Zc1fACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25281%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WMlxQcW8KWA/Xwml_tVILrI/AAAAAAAAG4s/FbIXHW1Ev904P4htCJUImeWDXla7Zc1fACLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25281%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
At the "top" of the strimmer, where the motor normally goes you have the battery housing, and I suspect the motor controller. A small fan keeps this cool I think which is activated when you pull the trigger. The battery is an 18v LXT battery, which can power around 100 different tools (drills, lawn mowers, even vibrating concrete pokers).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The battery will last a good 20 minutes. And that can be doing heavy brush cutter type work (long grass, herbaceous species (cow parsley, doc), and thing woody suckers such as ash saplings. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LQO8vNWHui4/Xwml_VlyWeI/AAAAAAAAG4o/2aMVD5HBxK8GvEB4Kvz434M_t3mP7wATgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25282%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LQO8vNWHui4/Xwml_VlyWeI/AAAAAAAAG4o/2aMVD5HBxK8GvEB4Kvz434M_t3mP7wATgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25282%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The control are simple, yet offer good variety you have 3 speeds to choose from, and also an automatic speed controller, which speeds up and down automatically depending on the type of work you are doing. This function is demonstrated in the video at the bottom of the page. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--LN77IHWMW4/Xwml_mmvK-I/AAAAAAAAG4w/hRAqIg1fI_cF134bAhJXc6zhBTIf8NG5QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25283%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--LN77IHWMW4/Xwml_mmvK-I/AAAAAAAAG4w/hRAqIg1fI_cF134bAhJXc6zhBTIf8NG5QCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25283%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The handle is simple in design, and can be held easily. The strimmer comes with a shoulder strap, which I do not use. Some have said this stimmer is very light. . . I would not agree, it is probably as heavy as my 22cc 2 stroke (husqvarna) strimmer. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-daMN7ZGN3D0/XwmmAAdX3PI/AAAAAAAAG40/Wr_8TKA5i0UM_j9Hokgpc8q4OkGRkTVXQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25284%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-daMN7ZGN3D0/XwmmAAdX3PI/AAAAAAAAG40/Wr_8TKA5i0UM_j9Hokgpc8q4OkGRkTVXQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25284%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The strimmer comes supplied with some 1.5 mm cutting line, which is fine. Shown here with stihl 3.3mm line. One of the best bits about this strimmer, is that I have not had a single snapped line in the several hours I have used it. My petrol strimmer had a tendency to rev up, to extreme speeds causing the line to snap, when hits a solid object. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dNW27pGaYsc/XwmmAY5qAnI/AAAAAAAAG44/PiyPvn4PNm40doF3ug3TecHRHqi4oa2nQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25285%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dNW27pGaYsc/XwmmAY5qAnI/AAAAAAAAG44/PiyPvn4PNm40doF3ug3TecHRHqi4oa2nQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25285%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The strimmer head will take commercial grade line, and can handle the implied work load. In use the torque is very high, and especially with a battery >50% charge, will mash up just about any vegetation. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2avRqSOkRco/XwmmAxYAIUI/AAAAAAAAG48/QCFskOU-cVwutn383lNv9FBU5uf5eBMbgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1600" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2avRqSOkRco/XwmmAxYAIUI/AAAAAAAAG48/QCFskOU-cVwutn383lNv9FBU5uf5eBMbgCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/Makita%2B%2BDUR187LZ%2BStrimmer%2B%25286%2529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So to conclude the strimmer is excellent. I can't really remember when I purchased a piece of equipment that I was so pleased with. There are no fumes, when you use it. No need to buy or mix fuel. No starting issues.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/fnQA4QOORXY/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fnQA4QOORXY?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
Makita also offer, some more powerful strimmers based on the LXT batteries. Which take 2 batteries upping voltage to 36v, likely to allow for higher wattage motor. Whilst I would of course be interested to try one of these more powerful strimmer / brush cutters, this DUR187LZ model provides plenty of power for me, whilst remaining fairly light weight.<br />
