OKI C3300 Toner and Drum Counter Reset

This is a work in progress page which aims to solve the problem of the crappy toner sensors on the OKI C3300.

When changing ink catridges you are often are told there is no ink when in fact there is a new cartridge just installed, which makes me cross.

Firstly you ought to check the little windows in the side of the toner DRUM, with an annoying little slide down.

The right and picture shows the how the little "door" can slide down and block the sensor, why this is even there I do not know, again very annoying design of the C3300.

Once you have checked this, the C3300 may start working. . . or not. You may wish to get ugly.

Down load the below program it is the OKI Maintenance Utility 1.33 or there abouts and lets you alter some settings on the C3300 as well as some other printers.

Download OKI Maintennace Utility

Install it and connect to the printer, if you are using a USB connection, then select "local port" and "discover".

If you are using a C3300n over network then use network, to find the IP adress of you printer click the below link.

FInd IP adress of printer

When the utility connects you will be presented with the below screen nativgate to to various bits of the printer.

Scroll down to where is says "diagnostics" and seclect "engine" and then wait for it to retrive current setting from the printer.

Disbale, all of the "sensor" and "ID" options and then click the execute button.

Switch off the printer and turn back on again, it should now ingnore sensor errors ect, and you should be able to carry on printing.

I have used with this with mixed sucess in the past. Perhaps if you find out anything extra please let me know (comments below).

  2. Dear Dio

I apologize for the error, I do not know where you can find 1.33. However, I will change the post from 1.33 to 1.18.

Please post back if you manage to find version 1.33 from a reliable source.

  5. I can only suggest you check your basic network settings, did you connect to the c3300 via a router. Use your router to find the IP address of the C3300. The add "local printer" with standard (create new) TCP/IP port. Pop in the IP address and install drivers for CD using "have disk" button when prompted.

I really can't understand why USB is not working though. Check all computer components are functioning properly in device manager???

    Good luck.

thanks for this link. I tried to install the kit twice, but could not make it working. That is, the MuWin.exe is missing. Missing badly, I should say... where could I get that from?

  11. Hi there, the oki imaging drums for the c3300 have a radio frequency chip inside them (located on the plastic end part of the drum) The printer counts drum rotations and stores this information on the chip. When it reaches the end of its set life (set by oki) it writes the information to the chip and kills the chip. This is when you will get the replace drum message and will not be able to print.

You can override this setting by sticking a new chip to the outside of the expired drum unit. Tricking the printer into thinking a new drum us installed.

    http://www.zinetic.co.uk/oki_c3300_drum_reset_chip-details.aspx

The toners also have a chip in the cartridge - and this works in the same way as the drum chip BUT - if you dont have enough toner in the cartridge - a new chip alone will not work.

  12. Thanks Toner Man, this is good info. My OKI is now gathering dust in the garage. The most important thing in a printer for me is that it works reliably. My OKI required so much faffing with every time, because of all the sensors. So now am with a Canon, 2 years and all I have had to do is put in more paper, and change toner once. Won't be going back to OKI!
Perhaps in their pursuit of profits, and sponsorship deals for premiership clubs OKI have forgotten that there primary goal should be to make printers that . . . . print!

  13. As described, the OKI c3300 is a pain in the ass printer, which tries to drive you mad under any circumstances.
Chances are high that using MuWin doesn’t do the job or ends in a connection error.
If someone is still trying to get this printer back to work, here’s what I’ve found out about it:
First of all, the printer locks itself up when encountering a problem. That means: You’ll not be able to connect via MuWin to fool around with the sensors when the Printer decides it is again time to take a break.
This issue can be fixed by using a little magic and timing (took me an hour to figure it out): The Printer locks itself up after “discovering the problem” – This takes a bit of time (8-10 seconds). When the Printer starts up and all the motors start moving while initialisation, you can connect, but there is not enough time to click, connect and receive the data.
Workaround: Open the Lid: Printer goes to “Lid open – take a break” mode: Open MuWin, discover the printer via USB (best way hence timing matters), close the lid and at the same time connect to the printer. This is enough for the first connect and receive.
So now it’s easy. For every step on a bricked Printer, you have to open and close the lid again. Takes some practice, but you’ll get there. Important: When changing values, before applying you have to open and close the lid again.

When the Printer can’t check its sensors, chances are high that it starts moving and ignoring them, leading to a now “working” printer.

I’ve used an old XP-machine, but chances are high that it works on Win10.
